Check out the Copacabana where you’ll find Lola, a showgirl, and Tony the bartender, played by Denise and Mike Filbin. A not-too-distant scene from their “meet cute” where Mike shuffled up to Denise, asked her to dance and that was the beginning of this Duo who celebrate their 29th anniversary in March.

Both Mike and Denise are dance and music enthusiasts and enjoy a west coast swing, cha-cha, and maybe even a samba, not infrequently at the Bunker Bar. The couple are Vancouver natives and from 2009-2019 owned and operated Filbin’s Ace Hardware. As small business owners, they jumped into community involvement with scouting sponsorships, became a dedicated PIC employer, held chili-cook off’s, a couple repair fairs and other fundraising and donations through their company.

Today, Mike is a territory manager for The Hillman Group and regularly spotted in hardware stores east to west. He previously served multiple years as the BSA district committee chair and is a 2016 Leadership Clark County graduate.

Denise began her undergraduate studies at Clark Community College and continued at Colorado State University. She has been an IT professional her entire career, with 10 years at Vancouver Public Schools, another 10 at Columbia Mutual Fund company, before transitioning into her current role as an Engineering Director for The Standard Insurance company, who sponsor a generous matching employee giving program and in 2021 raised $5.6 million for 2,200 organizations.
